2008 Cleveland Medal Winner
The winner of the 2008 Cleveland Medal was Terence Qualtrough (Bass), who last won the medal in 1997. Terry was chosen as winner by Dame Ann Murray, and he beat off strong competition from Jane Corkhill (Soprano), Mandy Griffin (Mezzo), Ernie Thorn (Tenor), Jane Mayne (Contralto), and Graham Crowe (Baritone).

2008 Finals Night
Dame Ann Murray will adjudicate the 2008 Cleveland Gold Medal Final and also give a recital accompanied by Ingrid Surgenor. In the 2002 Golden Jubilee Queen’s Birthday Honours the internationally renowned Dublin born Mezzo-soprano was appointed an honorary Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

New Officers
Mr Allan Wilcocks, MBE, JP, is our new Chairman. At the Annual General Meeting, held last evening in the Council Chambers at Douglas Town Hall, Mr Noel Cringle, President of Tynwald, stepped down as Chairman, Mrs Joan Hinnigan, MBE, and Mrs Jane Creer did likewise as Secretary and Treasurer respectively. To provide continuity at Executive level Mr Cringle agreed to serve as Vice-Chairman for the coming year. All three retirees have given long and dedicated service to "The Guild" and were warmly thanked for their service over the years. Mrs Hinnigan was subsequently appointed Vice-President acknowledging her record as the longest serving Secretary. Her successor is Mr David Cowley and the new Treasurer is Mr John Rickson. Congratulations were extended to all new officers. The existing Committee Members were re-elected en bloc.
